This piece was created as part of the BMC SciCard Collaborative Project, which consists of Pokemon-inspired science trading cards. The leafy seadragon has the special ability to disguise itself as a piece of drifting seaweed thanks to it’s unique skeletal shape and appendages of skin that mimic the colour and shape of seaweed.
To convey the surreal nature of this creature, I illustrated the seadragon in a realistic, yet fantasy-esque style using bright colours and dramatic lighting. The seadragon is portrayed living life to the fullest, coasting through the water alongside its fellow seagrasses.
